Need to send 1099s to people you’ve paid?

If you are self-employed or run a small business and have paid an individual or LLC more than $600 in a calendar year, you are responsible for sending them a 1099 form by January 31st of the following year.

If you need help sending and filing these forms, I have a small amount of space in my calendar for processing 1099s.

My fees for this service are $150, plus $10 per 1099 (person or entity).

Contact me via the form below to discuss.

What is needed to process 1099s?

  1. Who did you pay?

You must keep track of who you have paid throughout the year when you are self-employed. Any individual or LLC that you have paid more than $600 to over the course of the calendar year must be sent a 1099.

  2. How much did you pay them?

You will send a 1099 in the total amount that you paid them in the calendar year. So if you sent Susan DeWitt, your virtual assistant, 5 payments of $200 each, then you will send her a 1099 in the amount of $1,000

  3. What is their tax information?

If you suspect you are going to need to send someone a 1099, you should request a form W9 from them (preferably before you pay them. People are harder to track down once they’ve been paid.) A W9 simply asks them for their legal name, address, and tax ID. The information on this form will give you what you need to be able to correctly send a 1099 to them. You can download a W9 here (or send the link directly to them).

  4. Send the 1099s by the January 31st deadline

If you don’t have a professional send the forms on your behalf, you can send them yourself. You can fill them out manually by purchasing the forms from most office supply stores like Office Depot, or buy them online. If you want help filing them yourself, you can use an online service such as track1099.com
